The Situation

Uganda faces a heavy public-health burden driven by preventable diseases, structural inequities, and limited access to affordable, quality care—challenges that remain most severe in rural districts. Despite government reforms and modest economic progress, the country’s health outcomes still lag behind regional and global benchmarks.

The Objectives

The Nambi Health Centre project will implement a comprehensive set of development activities designed to improve access to healthcare, strengthen local capacity, and promote sustainable, community-led change. Each activity targets a root cause of poverty—limited access to affordable health services, preventable disease, and weak local systems—while ensuring that improvements endure beyond the project’s initial funding period.

Through these combined activities, addressing both the symptoms and structural causes of ill-health—the project will reduce preventable disease, increase household productivity, and foster a culture of health ownership. By embedding skills and governance within the local workforce, the Nambi Health Clinic will generate lasting, self-sustaining change in Mbarara’s most vulnerable communities.
