Gift Aid is one of the simplest and most effective ways of giving to charity. It is a scheme that allows GDG SCIO to claim an extra 25p for every £1 that you donate. So, for example, if you donate £100 we can claim an extra £25, making your gift worth £125.

You simply need to have paid or will pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax that is at least equal to the tax that GDG SCIO will reclaim from HMRC on your donations in a tax year.

All you need to do is to complete a form which includes a Gift Aid 'declaration'. This form requires:

  • your name, address (including postcode)
  • your signature (or tick a box, if online)
  • the date
  • you to confirm that you are a UK taxpayer, and
  • you to confirm that any donations you make to GDG SCIO in future (or in the previous four years) are to be treated as Gift-Aided.

If you have not paid enough UK tax (income tax or capital gains tax) during the tax year in question to match the tax the charity will reclaim on the gift, you should not make donations under Gift Aid.
